How should I preserve my forest to encourage bees?

This question was answered by forester Elena Schmidtmeyer in an interview:

Regular thinning, i.e. the removal of a few trees, is important so that the forest is not too dark. Sunlight should reach the soil so that ground plants can grow there. The creation of small forest clearings is also beneficial for bees. In addition to the cultivation of particularly bee-friendly tree species, forest edge design is crucial. Various native shrub species should be planted mixed with willows and wild fruit trees. Insects find a wide range of food there. Hollow trees should not be felled in the forest.

The background to the interview:

We are committed to reforestation. One way of doing this is to make donations and to plant trees. On the other hand, we also contribute to making the topic of “reforestation” more visible to the general public. We interviewed forester Elena Schmidtmeyer and filmed a series of video clips with her that answer many interesting questions on the subject.

Why do we get involved and how exactly do we do it? Please read our separate article here.
