We in the market

For more than 160 years, we – Wolfshöher Tonwerke – have been committed to producing refractory fireclay of the finest quality and are thus today a leading specialist in this field.

We see this as both commitment and challenge! Our goal is to live up to the trust placed in us while taking into account modern changes and innovations.

That is why we cooperate with companies and research institutes and participate with our many years of experience in interest groups and social projects.

We are convinced that heating with wood is sustainable. Provided that it is designed efficiently and sustainably and that the end users are enabled to operate their heating devices correctly.

That is why we are particularly happy to support projects that promote the construction of low-emission and energy-efficient heating systems and support stove fitters and trade press in convincing the end customer of the advantages of an expert fireclay stove as well as of an economical and efficient heating.

Schamottewerk Radeburg GmbH

Since September 2002, the company Schamottewerk Radeburg GmbH has been connected to Wolfshöher Tonwerke. As in the past, both individual companies continue to operate independently on the market. At the same time, however, coordination in a group creates an increase in performance and the possibility to better meet the requirements of the market in complementarity.

In Radeburg, the focus is on standard fireclay formats for stove construction. Wolfshöher Tonwerke offer an application-oriented comprehensive product range for expert stove construction as well as chimney pipes.

Kandern Feuerfest GmbH

In 2003, Wolfshöher Tonwerke also acquired a share in Kandern Feuerfest GmbH from Adolf Kammüller. Changing macroeconomic and sector-specific developments unfortunately made a profitable production at the Kandern site impossible. The company will be duly closed on 31.12.2020 in order to meet the long-standing loyalty of the employees as well as the social responsibility of the company.

“As a group, companies can meet the diverse and changing requirements: from standard formats to complicated shaped bricks, from simple to special qualities, from small to large quantities, each based on own raw material resources.”

(Ulrike Kutscha-Wolf, Managing Director until 2017)

Social projects

Since March 2014 we have been sponsoring the association “Ofenmacher e.V.”. The aim of the association is to install safe stoves with chimneys for the smoke outlet in rural households in developing countries. So far, the stove fitters are active in Nepal, Ethiopia and Kenya.

In most rural households an open fire in the living room is used for cooking. This practice carries risks, especially for small children who crawl or fall into the fire and suffer severe burns. In addition, residents often suffer long-term health damages, because they are exposed to the dense smoke in the houses for their lifetime.

Open fire uses the energy content of the fuels used, mostly wood from the surrounding forests, extremely inadequately. The pressure on the wooded areas is constantly increasing, more and more trees are being cleared. In addition to the well-known environmental problems, this also means that women have to cover longer distances and often have to spend most of the day collecting fuel.

In order to interrupt this cycle, trained stove fitters build simple cooking hobs with chimneys for the smoke outlet on behalf of the association. The required materials for a stove are locally available or can be easily procured: clay soil, cow dung, rice shells for the production of clay bricks, iron rods for stabilization and potted oven pipe.
