Disposing of fireclay - what to do with the cutting waste?

When building stoves made of fireclay, cutting waste is inevitable.

But what is the correct way to dispose of this waste material? This is explained in the following article.

We had our HBO+ fireclay analyzed in terms of waste legislation and it was classified as follows:

  • acc. LAGA: Z0 material
  • acc. ZTV wwG-StB By 05: RW1 Material
  • acc. DepV: DK0 material

This means that our fireclay is harmless. It has no classification-relevant increased pollutant concentrations or abnormalities and can therefore be disposed of without restriction as construction waste at local recycling centers and disposal companies – usually free of charge.

However, the classification only applies to unused, clean material that has not yet been in contact with mortar or similar and has not yet been used in the furnace. Used and contaminated refractory bricks must be analyzed and classified according to waste legislation before disposal.

Conclusion

The disposal of clean fireclay cutting waste is therefore not subject to any special requirements and is generally free of charge.
